Squier’s Gold Edition series celebrates four decades of history with blinged-out models of all Fender’s classic guitars and basses. From the pickguard to the bridge and even the washers, the 40th Anniversary Gold Edition Precision Bass is studded with striking all-gold hardware. It also boasts a stunning bound Indian laurel neck with pearloid blocks, a late-'60s feature that guitarists find complements this guitar’s decked-out cosmetics. A pair of Fender-designed alnico single-coils gives this bass a classicPrecision punch, with fat lows, in-your-face mids, and clear highs. Squier will only be making 40th Anniversary Gold Edition Precision Bass in 2022, so make sure you get yours before they're gone for good. There's nothing like the fat, punchy sound of a P Bass split single-coil pickup — it sits in a track like nobody's business. To say the P Bass is an industry standard is not an exaggeration: in the '60s and '70s, electric bass parts on session charts used to simply be labeled "Fender" — and that meant Precision. Motown even standardize the Precision Bass for all their recording sessions. From James Jamerson to Pino Palladino, bassists from all genres have embraced the Precision Bass, and it continues to be a favorite in the studio and on stages everywhere.
